Does SafeSearchScan upload my files?

Never. SafeSearchScan computes a SHA-256 fingerprint of your file locally and sends only that fingerprint to our threat databases. Your actual file never leaves your device.

How do I install the Chrome Extension?

Visit the Chrome Web Store and search for "SafeSearchScan Download Guardian", or go to safesearchscan.com/extension. Click "Add to Chrome" — it takes under 30 seconds.

The extension scanned 5 files and now says I've hit my limit. What do I do?

Free accounts include 5 download scans per day. Upgrade to a Personal or Professional plan for unlimited scans. Your limit resets every 24 hours.

How do I connect the Chrome Extension or Desktop App to my account?

Go to safesearchscan.com/dashboard → Settings → API Keys. Copy your API key and paste it into the extension Options page or the Desktop App Settings tab.

The Desktop App is watching my Downloads folder — is that safe?

Yes. The app uses macOS/Windows file system events to detect new files. It reads only the file bytes to compute a hash — it does not read, copy, or transmit the file content.

A file was quarantined by mistake. How do I restore it?

Open the Desktop App → Quarantine tab → find your file → click "Restore". The file is moved back to its original location immediately.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to safesearchscan.com/dashboard → Settings → Billing → Cancel Plan. Your access continues until the end of the billing period.

The extension isn't showing badges on links. Why?

Link badges are available on Personal plan and above. If you're on a free account, upgrade to enable them. Also check that the extension is enabled for the current site in chrome://extensions.
