Winamp really whips the llama's ass. Nullsoft's media player was the dominant music player through the late 1990s and 2000s, supporting MP3, CD, streaming radio, visualizations, and thousands of community-made skins. AOL acquired Nullsoft in 1999 but shut it down in 2013. Winamp was then acquired by the Llama Group, who released a revamped version in 2022-2023.
Why was it discontinued?
AOL shut down Nullsoft and Winamp in December 2013, citing changing market conditions. The brand was later sold and revived.
